Asia Cup 2025: Bangladesh Names 25-Man Provisional Squad

Summary

Bangladesh's squad will begin preparation from August 6 ahead of the Asia Cup 2025 and Netherlands T20I series starting later this month.

UAE vs Bangladesh T20

Bangladesh Cricket Board has announced the 25-man provisional squad for the upcoming Asia Cup 2025, and then for the Netherlands T20I series scheduled later this month.

Nurul Hasan made the headlines after he was picked in the preliminary squad. Nurul’s selection was overlooked despite his amazing performance in the domestic competition.
While Nurul Hasan managed to make the cut in Bangladesh’s 25-man preliminary squad for the Asia Cup 2025, Mosaddek Hossain failed to catch the selectors' attention.

Mehidy Hasan retained in the squad

Meanwhile, all-rounder Mehidy Hasan Miraz has retained his place in the preliminary squad despite his worrying dip in form in the shortest format. Miraz struggled during the T20I series against Sri Lanka and couldn't make a mark in the home and away series against Pakistan either. Still, the selectors have backed him for the Asia Cup preparation.

As for Nurul, he will be among a group of five players from the preliminary squad who are expected to miss a major portion of the preparation camp. These players — Nurul Hasan, Mahidul Islam, Saif Hasan, Hasan Mahmud, and Naim Sheikh — are scheduled to leave for Australia on August 9 for the upcoming T20 Series 2025 in Darwin.

Expect these players to miss the initial camp. The rest of the squad will begin preparations on August 6.

"The available players will report for a fitness camp at SBNCS, Mirpur, on 6 August. The skill practice will begin at the SBNCS from 15 August, before the camp moves to Sylhet on 20 August," BCB said in a statement.

The Netherlands will tour Bangladesh for a 3-match T20I series starting from the 30th of August, with the final match of the series scheduled for September 4th, ahead of the Asia Cup 2025.

Bangladesh will use the Netherlands series as preparation for the Asia Cup 2025 and can be expected to trim their squad before leaving for the UAE. They begin their group stage campaign facing Hong Kong, then Sri Lanka, and in the final group stage match, they’ll face Afghanistan.

Bangladesh has been consistent with results in the T20I format, defeating Sri Lanka away from home and defeating Pakistan at home. Travelling with momentum, Bangladesh could well have a tournament to remember in the upcoming Asia Cup 2025.
