The England Test series was one to remember for Shubman Gill. He was named as the new Test skipper of the side and had a point to prove. Gill was criticised for his numbers in Test cricket.
However, against England, he made the most of his opportunities, scoring 754 runs in the series, including four hundreds. He was also named the Player Of The Series for his consistency with the bat.
Gill scored a double hundred and a hundred in the second Test at Edgbaston, ending with 430 runs in the Test match, the most by any batter. He also played a key role with the bat in the fourth Test, scoring a hundred in the fourth innings and along with Washington Sundar and Ravindra Jadeja played a key role in drawing the Test match.

There Were Lot Of Question Marks On His Overseas Record - Yuvraj Singh On Shubman Gill
As it turned out, India won the fifth Test at The Oval and drew the series. In the process, India moved above England in the WTC points table. Former Indian all-rounder Yuvraj Singh while speaking to the ICC, lauded Shubman Gill for his efforts with the bat in the series against England.
“There were a lot of question marks over his overseas record. The guy became the captain and scored four Test hundreds. It's just unbelievable that when you're given responsibility, how you take it. So, very proud of them. I certainly feel it's a win for us, although it's a drawn series, because it's a young team. And it's not easy to go and play well in England and prove yourself,” Yuvraj told ICC.
Yuvraj further said that the moment of the series for him was when India drew the fourth Test in Manchester. Jadeja and Sundar both scored centuries with the bat, along with Gill. Jadeja has his best series with the bat in Tests, scoring over 500 runs. The former India all-rounder lauded Jadeja and Sundar for their efforts as well.
“The moment in the tournament was when India drew the Test series. I've never seen, in a very long time, Washington and Jadeja got hundreds and drew a Test match. That speaks volumes. Obviously Jadeja has been there for a long time. But I think Washington Sundar, as a youngster coming into the team, I think it was incredible to do what he did,” he added.
