IPL 2025 Match 16 LSG vs MI Highlights: LSG Win By 12 Runs

Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) won the 16th match of the Indian Premier League 2025 (IPL 2025) against Mumbai Indians (MI) by 12 runs at the Ekana Stadium.

Opting to bowl first after winning the toss, MI had restricted LSG to 203/8, thanks to a brilliant five-wicket haul by captain Hardik Pandya.

However, their batting got off to a rocky beginning as Akash Deep, who was making his debut for LSG, struck early, dismissing Will Jacks for five runs in the second over. Shardul Thakur followed suit by removing Ryan Rickelton for 10 runs in the third over, leaving MI at 17/2.

Entering at No. 3, Naman Dhir (46 runs off 24 balls) took on Akash in the fourth over that yielded 21 runs. He smashed two sixes and as many fours to swing the match back in MI’s favour. Dhir’s fearless assault lifted MI to 64/2 by the powerplay’s end.

His fireworks ended in the ninth over when Digvesh Rathi cleaned him up, halting MI’s momentum. Dhir’s departure brought Tilak Varma (25 runs off 23 balls) to the crease. By the end of the 10th over, MI stood at 101/3.

Suryakumar Yadav (67 runs off 43 balls) took charge, anchoring the innings with a blend of caution and aggression. Alongside Tilak, he built a steady partnership, countering LSG’s bowlers with deft footwork and timely boundaries.

He hammered two consecutive boundaries off Avesh Khan in the 11th over. Rathi gave away only two runs in the 12th, bringing the pressure back on MI. 12 runs came off the 13th over bowled by Shardul as the match hung in balance.

Suryakumar brought his fifty in 31 deliveries with a boundary in the 14th over. Meanwhile, Tilak struggled at the other end, forcing his partner to take more risks.

Eventually, Avesh got the better of Suryakumar, who mistimed a sweep shot and got taken at the deep mid-wicket region.

Hardik (28 runs off 16 balls), coming to bat at No. 6, struck a boundary straight away. Tilak too hit a four to end the 17th, reducing the equation down to 40 runs off 18 deliveries. Rathi conceded 11 runs in the 18th over.

Shardul bowled exceptionally well in the penultimate over. MI could only gather five singles and a two. As Tilak found hard to score, he retired himself out. Mitchell Santner (2 runs off 2 balls) walked out to bat at No. 7.

With 22 runs needed off the last over, the onus was on Hardik to win it for MI. He tonked a six on the first ball, igniting hopes in the MI camp. He ran a two and turned down a single on the third delivery to retain strike. Avesh then bowled a dot as it became mathematically impossible for Mumbai Indians to win.

MI ultimately finished at 191/5 as LSG won by 12 runs.

Rathi was named Player of the Match for his spell of 1-21.

With this victory, LSG moved to the sixth position on the IPL 2025 points table, while Mumbai Indians plummeted to seventh place.
