Australia batter Tim David has almost ruled out the possibility of making his return to the ODI format ahead of the ICC ODI World Cup 2027. Australia are lacking quality lower-order batters at the moment.
The likes of Marcus Stoinis and Glenn Maxwell have suddenly retired from ODI cricket, leaving a big gaping hole in Australia's lower-order. David, who has over 50 T20Is for Australia, has played just four ODIs for the country.
The 29-year-old made his ODI debut back in 2023 and played his last ODI against South Africa in September 2023. David started playing for Singapore before he switched to Australia to progress his career.

No Immediate Plans - Tim David On ODI Return
He is now a regular member in Australia's T20I side and a household name across franchise T20 leagues all over the world. Meanwhile, Cricket Australia and the selectors are keen on having him around for the 2027 ODI World Cup.
Tim David has featured in just one match of the domestic One-Day Cup for Tasmania in November 2021. Since his last ODI in 2023, he has not played any 50-over List A matches. He spoke about his ODI plans, saying playing ODI cricket is not an "immediate" plan.
"I'm not too sure, to be honest. It's not the immediate plan. We've got such a busy year, to be honest, leading up to this T20 World Cup. The winter actually looks quite different for me this year. Previously, I would have been away for four or five months in a row over the winter playing competitions. And now we've got so many T20 series that there's not much time to think about much else. So we'll see how that develops. But, at the moment, no plans" said David.
The Australian hard-hitter won the IPL title with Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) earlier this year in June. Currently, he is recovering from a hamstring injury before the T20I series against West Indies starting from July 20.
He was originally set to return to action in the Global Super League for the Hurricanes, however, he is taking slightly more time to recover.
"Initially, that was the plan, especially once the Hurricanes had a team in the GSL. Unfortunately, the injury and just the nature of it (meant it) was going to be a pretty tight time schedule. And I've probably got a couple of things that I need to tick off with the CA guys when I get over to Jamaica just before they're fully comfortable, but I'm feeling confident. And unfortunately, just the timeframe of what those recoveries look like, it was tough for me to get up (for the GSL)," he said.

Australia To Have Packed T20I Schedule From July 20
Australia will be playing eight T20I matches on the trot, starting with a five-match series against the Windies from July 20. That follows a three-match series against South Africa and then an ODI series following the T20Is. Australia will then head to New Zealand for three T20Is in early October, followed by five home T20Is against India in late October and early November.
